  • An auger bit is used primarily for pulling wire through studded walls. This bit is fast but should not be used for polished finishes.
  • The spade bit or paddle bit (figure A) does the same thing an auger bit does, but not as fast. It does, however, create a finished hole for a nice appearance.
  • Counter sinks are used to create divots for screws which can then be disguised with wood putty
