The vivacious and fantastic Rita Moreno invited us to her home in Berkeley, California, which has a majestic view of San Francisco and the surrounding hills (figure A). Moreno is the only woman to have won the following five awards in competition: an Oscar?, Grammy, Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe. Moreno has been a part of the series Oz for seven years and will be a recurring character on The Guardian. She won her Oscar? for her role in West Side Story.

Moreno delighted in filling her 4000-square-foot home with all the incredible and eclectic ethnic art that she has collected over the years (figure B). She loves the "vibe" her home exudes and gets many compliments from guests. Practicing a strong eye for art, her only challenges are finding ways to make the varied pieces work together. Her home is a collection of vignettes, which are displayed throughout the house. She cherishes the American Indian rug that hangs over her fireplace.

The kitchen (figure C) is the heart of the house for Moreno. She loves to cook and feed people and she spends most of her time here. The room actually phases into first a gathering area and then a play area. It's where everything happens and where her relatives and grandchildren gravitate.
