With a low, arching ceiling and double windows look onto the front garden, the second floor sitting room is a cozy area for a family TV nook. Interior designer Linda Woodrum carried the green and brown color palette used on the first floor into this room, and paired it with a warm orange, which she highlighted in the fabrics and accessories.
The area rug is made of recycled nylon. Its subtle texture and color add to the neutral color palette and the home's soothing feel. It gives the room definition while allowing the space to act as a pass-through between the bedrooms and the stairs.
Beneath the carpet, walnut veneer planking covers a dense inner layer of recycled wood fibers. This product uses up to two-thirds less harvested wood than alternative wood flooring options and comes from managed forests.
Two club chairs, upholstered in eco-friendly striped slipcovers, flank a love seat in chocolate linen. Woodrum added texture and color with a mix of throw pillows, ranging from nubby orange to wide brown-and-white stripes – and even added a fun take on wood grain.
Three pictures of low-country houses hang above the love seat. Distressed-wood end tables – one round and one rectangular – sit at either end of the couch. A flat-screen TV is suspended over the club chair opposite the window, making this a multi-purpose room, designed for napping, reading or watching a movie on a rainy South Carolina evening.
The lamps are large glass jars with recycled tin shades, with finials of hand-blown glass bulbs. Their round lines soften the oversized square furniture and give the room height.
