Goldenrain Tree
Many cities have discovered what a great street tree this is--a good habit and tolerant of heat and drought, pollution, acid or alkaline soils. But it's in midsummer when the goldenrain tree (Koelreuteria paniculata) is at its peak--its canopy literally covered with dangling yellow flowers. After the flowers come attractive papery pods, which unfortunately turn a bit unkempt as they age into fall. Mature height is usually 30 to 40 feet high and wide. USDA Zones 5 to 8.
