Astilbe
It's easy to get into the spirit of gardening at Cincinnati's Flower Show because it's held--where else?--in the garden! Billed as the nation's largest outdoor horticultural exhibition, the show is attended by thousands each year. Host Rebecca Kolls picked up these gardening tips at the show.

If you are concerned about blackspot and disease resistance for roses, choose roses with shiny leaves. They are more disease resistant to fungus problems, whether it be black spot or powdery mildew.

Rebecca also met with an expert in allergy-free gardening from England, who offered her a bouquet of ideas that were nothing to sneeze at. First of all, grass is the worst offender. If you absolutely need grass, get someone else to mow it. Also, if you have asthma, it may be triggered by scent, so don't include scented plants. Some suggested sneeze-free plants are: scabiosa, snow-on-the-mountain, columbine, hosta, astilbe, violas, ajuga and most flowering trees. The bottom line: Flowers are usually nonallergic unless they're scented or daisy-shaped.
