Q&A: Master Gardeners

Gardening by the Yard : Episode GBY-312 -- More Projects »
Q: Who are master gardeners, and how does one become one?

A: The master gardener program began in Washington in 1972, and to this day that state's program is one of the best in the country. Master gardeners are volunteers who receive training through the Cooperative Extension Service, a government agency that provides gardening advice to the public, usually through a local land-grant college or university. If you'd like to get your master gardener's certification, look in the government pages of your phone book under Cooperative Extension Service.
