Q&A: Oxalis

Grow It! : Episode GRW-626 -- More Projects »
Q: Are all oxalis considered weeds?

A: Steve Brigham explains that only one type of oxalis--the small, common green variety with a somewhat clover-like appearance--is an actual weed. A number of other oxalis varieties feature colorful foliage and/or blooms and don't produce problem-causing seeds. For example, Oxalis 'Garnet' features stunning, dark violet leaves and bright pink blossoms that last through winter and spring in full sun, and is grown from bulbs. So go ahead and plant some oxalis bulbs and shrubs--just avoid the seed-producing weed variety!
