Who says you can't grow a garden even if you don't have the space? This is a perfect example. It's a basket of lettuce that can be hung on a back deck, a patio, places without a garden. And you don't even need a lot of sun. Lettuce is one of the easiest vegetables to grow. It's a cool season crop that will thrive in partial shade. It should be planted in the fall or early spring and there are so many different varieties to choose from in various shades of green and red.

One lettuce basket can supply you with at least three harvests.
To begin, line the bushel basket with the plastic garbage bag; this will help retain moisture and prevent the basket from rotting. Next, add potting soil level with the top of the basket. You may have to trim of some of the excess liner. Now pour out your seeds and sprinkle them on top of the soil. Press them in place and lightly spritz the seeds with water. After a few weeks, your lettuce should be up and growing and in no time, when it's about three inches, go ahead and harvest. And when you do, leave about an inch of the lettuce. That way it will continue growing so that you get at least three harvests out of one little basket.
