A well-planted shade garden can be the most soothing, restful spot in your garden. That's true for Gardening by the Yard host Paul James, whose front yard is frequently the scene for his morning cup of coffee. There in a small shady area, the finely-cut, palmate-like leaves of a Japanese maple soften a limestone boulder. Beneath the maple is a healthy young hellebore called 'Sopron' with unusual, palmate leaves. And nearby are lush ferns and a collection of other shade-loving plants.
