Taming the Jungle

Curb Appeal : Episode CRB-208 -- More Projects »
Designer Candace Barnes begins her cottage-style garden makeover by pulling out all of the existing hardscape and most of the bulbs and weeds. She removes one huge overgrown pink camellia and prunes another to reveal its inner beauty. The entire garden is re-graded and an ample flagstone path and patio area are added, which gives this cottage a real sense of presence.

Barnes adds a classic white picket fence and a new porch railing. On the house itself, she attaches a white trellis to the blank façade. She finishes off the yard with clusters of white margaritas, yellow and blue salvia and white African daisies. Purple hardenbergia is trained up the porch posts and a thick layer of cedar mulch provides a fresh, clean backdrop.
