If you like a garden that's trendy and cutting-edge, get ready to throw out the pastels and bring in the heat. Because hot colors have never been so cool. Bright yellows, bold oranges and sizzling chartreuse--annuals blazing with color are all the rage.

Celosia comes in various tropical shades. And you can always count on zinnias to give your garden some zip. But for a blazing kaleidoscope of color, put the two together. The fiery orange celosia sits beautifully against golden zinnias. And talk about bright--yellow marigolds make a great border planted next to orange celosia, and the huge canna leaves are a dramatic backdrop. Other flowers sure to heat up your garden include Mexican tulip poppies, Dahlberg daisies, or 'Sonnet Bronze' snapdragons. And if you want flashy leaf texture, try mixing in some chartreuse coleus.

All these flowers are annuals. They'll grow best in full sunshine; keep them watered throughout the summer and fertilize once a month. And if you keep them deadheaded--or, remove the spent blooms--they'll keep sizzling with color all summer long.
