Perfect Planting

Gardening by the Yard : Episode GBY-111 -- More Projects »
Planting a new lawn can be done three ways. The first is to seed it. Although this is the cheapest method, it requires careful soil preparation and patience. The second is sprigging or plugging. This costs more and tends to be labor-intensive. In addition, the variety of grass you want to grow may be hard to find in sprigs. Last but not least is sodding--the most popular method--which requires the least amount of time but the greatest amount of money.

Familiar garden tools such as the shovel, rake and hoe can sometimes be cumbersome in certain areas of the garden. To make things a bit easier, try smaller versions of these tools. These "little helpers" are often more flexible for digging around plants and reaching tight corners.
