Hurt Estate Garden

Boyce Thompson Arboretum

William Boyce Thompson gathered a world of desert knowledge and planted it in Arizona, and today the mining magnate's years of study and exploration lives on in species of plants that represent deserts around the world. Agave and a night-blooming cactus native to Argentina add to the desert landscape. Among the treasures here- -the largest redgum eucalyptus in the U.S. that measures more than 100 feet tall and more than 8 feet in diameter.

Hurt Estate Garden

The first clue to Gayle Hurt's garden elegance is the circular bed of roses that highlight the drive. The 27 rose bushes were an anniversary gift from Hurt's husband. An impressive colonnade marks the pathway through their equally impressive garden. Fountains, sculpture and floral fantasies such as plumbago provide a varied landscape on this three-acre estate.

Revella Garden

Adele Revella's garden is a well-blended combination of the old and the new. One-hundred -year-old saguaro mix with transplanted ironwood trees. But the most stunning part of the garden is an "ancient aqueduct" that's brand new. Revella and designer Mitchell John borrowed the idea from ancient Hohokum civilizations. Surrounding papyrus, cattails and canna complete the impression that this home is built on an archaeological site.

Petznick garden

Golf Course Paradise

There's a little bit of England in the Arizona desert. Just off the ninth hole of one of Arizona's 200 golf courses, a wrought iron gate opens to another world. Earl and Pat Petznick's garden teems with chrysanthemums, lobelia and delphinium. A gazebo unites the Petznicks' garden with the neighboring yard that Pat's sister owns. Red geraniums and a sparkling fountain accent the sister's garden while the two share a stunning gazebo. The two households share a close relationship so that both gardens are all in the family.
