New York Botanical Gardens
New York, New York

This 250-acre destination is far too big to be seen in a day. With 48 different gardens and 17,000 kinds of plants, it lives up to its nickname, "the garden of gardens." This beautiful spot in the Bronx also boasts the largest Victorian glasshouse in the U.S.

Janesville, Wisconsin

Here's an opportunity to see plants and landscape styles from faraway places. Merry blooms from England, the symmetry of Italian gardens and the symbolic landscapes of Japan make up just a few of the international delights. This site was once a gravel pit where people dumped their trash--that is, until a retired orthodontist and two rotary clubs decided to create a beautiful garden.

The Arboretum at Arizona State University
Tempe, Arizona

A garden grows on the campus of Arizona State University--a garden that is truly an oasis in the midst of a desert community. More than 300 date palms from around the globe add beauty and taste to campus life. One of the university's presidents created a spider web of canals that direct water from the nearby Salt River onto the campus greenery.
