Just north of Miami, Flamingo Gardens boasts 65 acres of exotic flora and fauna. What was once orange groves is now a patch of paradise with more than 3,000 species of tropical and subtropical plants. Delicate coral flamingos, pelicans, blue-beaked ducks and peacocks dot the landscape with color.

In the landscape of western Connecticut, American history has deep roots. Here, on the nine acres of the Bellamy-Ferriday House and Garden, history comes alive in the garden. A formal French garden is patterned after a parlor rug. And there's a willow tree grown from a cutting of a tree at Napoleon Bonaparte's gravesite.
