The Morikami Museum houses more than 5,000 works of Japanese art, but perhaps the most impressive works of art at the Morikami are the gardens. Extending over 200 acres, the gardens represent 12 centuries of Japanese garden design, including a meditative Zen garden and a lake created with 200 tons of Texas granite.

In 1988 one of the oldest horticultural societies in the country turned an 18th-century farm into a public garden. Tower Hill magically blends past and present to give the illusion of agelessness. Daylilies brighten the front lawn of the old farmhouse while a secret garden lies in waiting behind a nearby pergola.

Just off a back road in rural Pennsylvania, you can find a real gardener's garden. Stonehedge is named for the scattered stones that add a rustic charm to the garden. A lovely herb garden boasts 75 varieties of chilis that range in color from yellow to red to purple.
