Touchable Plants

Agave
When reaching to touch an agave, it's best not to prick your finger. So it may defy logic as to why this spiky plant has made the "touchable" list. However, it's exactly that characteristic--its spikiness--in combination with thick, succulent leaves that make agaves a curiosity. Although you won't want to lie down in a mass planting of this plant, it's their almost-threatening appearance that make them intriguing to touch. They may not be soft and fuzzy, but we love them because their texture is so different.

Other plants with spiky texture:

  • Yucca
  • Rattlesnake master or sea holly (Eryngium yuccifolium)
  • Succulents, including Sedum and Sempervivum
  • Cordyline
  • New Zealand flax (Phormium tenax)
