Clanking dinnerware suspended from a terra-cotta pot painted with a face is a fun way to scare away pests.
Craft designer Erlene Hussainy shows how to make a whimsical wind chime to keep garden pests at bay.

Materials:

acrylic paints
paintbrush
terra-cotta pot
drill
silverware pieces
twine
tape

Steps:

  1. Paint a face on a terra-cotta pot with the drain hole at the top.

  2. Drill holes around the base of the pot and two holes through the bottom of the pot about two inches apart (the bottom will be the top of the head).

  3. Drill holes in the handles of silverware.

  4. Using twine with tape around the cut ends to keep it from fraying, tie the silverware to the pot, threading the twine through the holes in the base.

  5. Attach a long piece of twine to the pot through the two holes in the bottom of the pot.

  6. Hung in a tree or on a porch, this wind chime will scare away unwanted critters.
