This project focuses on a small backyard in a downtown neighborhood. The homes in this area were originally built for workers in a nearby mill. When the mill closed many years ago, the neighborhood fell into disrepair. That's changing now as people are moving in and giving these homes a new lease on life.
The yard is mostly bare, has compacted soil and lacks a focal point. The homeowner has been renovating the home and now she wants a lovely garden and sitting area in her backyard. Host Rick Kaldrovics introduces landscape architect Dixie Speck, who has created a design that will bring charm and beauty to this tiny backyard. Her plan includes a circular gravel terrace outlined in brick and surrounded by perennials and flowering evergreen shrubs. Perennial expert Cheri Fox discusses the perennials that will help transform this space.
