Raised-Bed Garden

At the Redwoods retirement community in Mill Valley, California, gardener Chris Chater has created a unique raised-bed garden that features easy access for the elderly. The beds are composed of a soil/compost mixture and are contained in wooden bins measuring three feet in height, allowing residents to enjoy gardening that is "stoop-free" and wheelchair accessible. Wide ledges surround the beds, providing a convenient place to lean or rest, and a specially designed compost bin enables residents to practice recycling. The spacious arrangement of the flourishing beds creates a serene environment where both novice and experienced gardeners can exercise their gardening skills or just relax.
