Before: This patio is nicely furnished as it is, but it's going to be redesigned using a British Colonial theme to make it even more comfortable and functional for outdoor entertaining.

After: The back of this house is now as finished as the interior, making it a wonderful space for entertaining and relaxing.
Photo

Before: Lots of furniture and an old barbeque aren't making this patio as inviting as the homeowners would like it to be.

After: The redwood fence is given a facelift with tongue and groove boards that are then painted the same color as the exterior of the house for continuity. New wooden furniture along with a new barbeque and patio wall extensions combine to make the space more defined and welcoming.

Before: This bare corner of the covered patio isn't functioning to its fullest potential.

After: A new bar looks as if it's always been a part of this home and is a great addition for outdoor entertaining.
Sonya Peterson is giving her husband, Kent, a British-Colonial backyard makeover that's full of multifunctional elements that actually disappear. Host Susie Coelho and designer Brian Toffoli work with the Outer Spaces team to build a new bar, update the existing fence and turn the patio into an outdoor room as comfortable as the inside of this home.

Brian Toffoli's design turns the patio into a relaxing outdoor room in British Colonial style with a new barbeque, dining area and a grouping of comfortable chairs under a giant umbrella. A bar painted to match the house along with a more dramatic entry to the patio and lush plants complete the plan.

This large copper planter doubles as a trash can during outdoor parties. Four holes drilled into the center of each side toward the top hold clips that support a piece of marble with a big hole cut in the center of it.

Disguise an umbrella pole by putting a lightweight urn without its bottom over the base, and then place a plastic pot with a hole in the bottom into the top of the urn before returning the umbrella to its position. Put shade-loving ivy inside the pot to soften the look.
