Millie Huckabay and her husband live in a rustic log cabin on a secluded piece of property outside of Atlanta. But it's what they've done outside the home that catches your eye. A wide, covered country porch has been added to the original dwelling and is decorated as if it were an extension of the house. Rustic twig chairs sit at one end of the porch next to a primitive antique table topped with small buckets of flowers. More flowers bloom in rustic containers and painted birdhouses and a small red wagon give additional charm. From their country porch, the Huckabays look out over a tidy and well-planned garden filled with flowers, more birdhouses and trailing vines.
To create a country porch and garden for your country home:
- Create seating areas on your porch that you would expect to find only indoors. Accessorize wicker chairs with quilts and throw pillows. Incorporate tables in the area to accommodate collections and display.
- Create themed vignettes with your collections. Birdhouses and garden tools are perfect conversation pieces for a front porch or garden area.
- What's a country garden without beautiful flowers? Plant flowers that look natural and fit well with the look you're aiming to achieve.
