Before: The two-story facade of this new home overwhelms a yard that's nude of landscaping. A brick retaining wall looks imposing, and the patio could use a little privacy.

After: The new landcaping helps scale down the size of the house and provide privacy for the patio. (Click on image for a video recap of the project.)
The homeowners have double French doors that lead out of their basement onto a small concrete pad. The house is new, so the area is bare and void of any plants around the small patio. The homeowners want to dress up the area and make the space more usable.

Landscape designer Doug Bork creates a low-maintenance landscape that the homeowners can enjoy year-round. He gives the concrete a face-lift, builds a wood arbor and landscapes the area to soften a brick retaining wall. The patio becomes an entertainment area where the homeowners relax and entertain friends in style.
