A porch can be just as comfortable and charming as a living room. Design expert Mary Emmerling offers some creative tips on how to furnish an outdoor space to make it an inviting addition to a country home.
  • Just like indoors, an outdoor space also needs a seating arrangement with a couch, chairs, side tables and coffee table.
  • Choose colors that reflect nature so it will be a nice transition into your home.
  • Make sure fabrics and paint are weather resistant.
  • Control direct sunlight by hanging fabric panels from plastic or rust-proof metal rings (figure A).
