Resurrecting a Neglected Courtyard

See this space go from battered to beautiful.

Landscapers' Challenge : Episode LSC-1306 -- More Projects »
The courtyard of Ryan and Elaine's Miami home needed help even before it was hit by two hurricanes. Now the outdoor furniture is smashed as well as outdated, the patio is a battered mess, and the fountain has become so murky that tadpoles have begun to spawn. With a $35,000 budget, they bring this design challenge to Luis Llenza, Vincent Filigenzi and the team of Robert Parsley and Gregg Pawley.

Before: Castaway Courtyard
South Florida's dramatic storms were the culprits behind the courtyard's funky fountain and broken furniture, but some eyesores – like the strange tree sculpture on the wall – come down to bad design in years gone by. Ryan tried to open up the space by cutting down a huge tree in the courtyard, but taking away the shade just caused the sun to scorch plants and people alike. The couple want to convert their "800 square feet of junk" into a classy, serene outdoor living space where they can relax and entertain in style.
