The Plan: Formal Functionality
Stacey and Jonathan picked Pete's design in part because it was so practical for their lifestyle and limited space. His vision for a formal, Roman-style garden provides plenty of seating, an impressive barbecue area and an upgraded play space for 4-year-old Miles – and his new baby brother on the way. The yard area wasn't the only tight space for Pete to consider: Since the homes in Stacey and Jonathan's neighborhood are attached, with no back alleys running behind, everything coming into or out of the site had to pass through a 30-inch-wide door and the downstairs apartment occupied by the couple's tenant.
