Nine years ago Kourosh and Valary Bral bought their 1948 ranch-style house and created an interior perfect for raising their 10-year-old son. Now the backyard needs attention. The large, concrete-filled yard is visible from every room in the house, and the couple would like it to be just as appealing as the inside. With a budget of $20,000 and a landscape designer, the Brals would like to fix the uneven cement patio, solve their drainage problems, create a new deck surrounding their pool and add plants to beautify the yard. They would like to take the neglected sections of their backyard and unify them into one inviting and cohesive outdoor space. Which landscaper designer will be up to the challenge? The Brals hear the presentations of each designer. Scott Cohen's design turns the Brals' backyard into a natural setting that is convenient for entertaining. Steve Brimer and James Dowgiallo propose a green, park-like environment. Amit Reichman's design makes the backyard more practical for day-to-day living.
The Brals choose Cohen's plan, and he rises to the challenge, turning what was once a flat expanse of old concrete into what is now a harmonious blend of water, stone and plant elements that delight the senses. He creates a beautiful backyard view to enjoy from all rooms of the home.
