Decorative artist Ilona Saari turns a storage area into an outdoor dining room on a shoestring budget. Here are a few of the items she used to accomplish her goal:
  • A chandelier stored away in the garage and rewired for outdoor use.
  • A slightly flawed iron-and-glass dining table bought at closeout.
  • Additional wicker chairs to go with the ones already there.
  • Old unmatched silver-plate flatware (no piece cost more than a dollar).
  • Unmatched bone-china plates (also no more than a dollar apiece).
  • Green-glass server plates ($1.50 each).
  • Wire birdcages, fake ivy and grapes, strands of artificial pearls, candles in champagne glasses for centerpieces and accents.
  • A $15 flea-market oil painting, mirrors, an empty frame hung on the lattice.
