Flowering Topiary Care

TIPical Mary Ellen : Episode TIP-731 -- More Projects »
Floral designer Ardith Beveridge shows how to create beautiful floral topiaries.

  • First visit your local craft store to pick up some floral foam, floral tape or anchor tape, preservative, pots and liners. You may also want to pick up some decorative ribbon to use as an accent.

  • Fill a liner with a foam frog (figure A) and add water. Next place sprigs of baby's breath and a few sprigs of fern into the frog.

  • Using anchor tape, tape together a long-stemmed bunch of baby's breath. Place the stems into the frog and accent with ribbon (figure B).

  • Instead of using a pot to hold your topiary, use a coffee mug. Once again line the mug, fill with a floral frog and fill with greens. Tape together three bunches of lilies and place stems into the frog.

  • Stacking clay terra-cotta pots is another cute way of display flowering topiaries (figure C).

  • Line a large plastic pot and fill with floral frog. Place a skewer into the frog and stack some smaller pots upside down and thread over the skewer. Cut the skewer off close to the top (figure D).

  • Stick a piece of double-sided tape to the bottom of a small plastic fake terra-cotta saucer and attach to the top of the stack. Place another larger pot on top of the smaller ones and secure frog with tape (figure E). Now decorate with flowers.
