Figure C
Host Kathi Cardinalli shows how to create fabulous indoor/outdoor planters with photocopied images of Greek gods and ceramic paints.

Materials:

white exterior latex paint
terra-cotta pot
motifs (wallpaper pieces, photos from books, etc.)
white glue
sponge brush
burnt sienna glaze
clear-coat protectant

Steps:

  1. Paint terra-cotta pot. Let dry.

  2. Cut out photos, wallpaper pieces (figure A), or whatever else you choose for your design.

  3. Use white glue and thoroughly cover the back of the picture. Attach around the pot rim (figure B). Use your fingers to smooth out the surface and remove any air bubbles. Be sure to measure each piece before cutting to make sure the picture fits the entire surface.

  4. Repeat the same process with the remaining photos.

  5. As a connecting piece, cut geometric shapes such as triangles and place them between each picture. Attach with glue. Let dry completely.

  6. Apply glaze to entire surface (figure C) and pat it off to create a texture. This will give the project an aged look. Let dry and repeat.

  7. Cover entire surface with clear-coat protectant.
