Before: A weedy, empty backyard is a blank slate ready for a makeover. The homeowners want a very simple, Zen-like tranquility garden.
Photo

After: The space has been transformed into a beautiful, Japanese meditation garden. A flowing stone path feels like a river flowing through the grass.

Bamboo, maple and seagrass line the fence, adding all the elements of a traditional Japanese garden. Fragrant flowering vines will eventually cover the fence.
Homeowners Shirin Etessam and Lisa Kristine have a backyard with a rotting fence and a tangle of weeds. Our Landscape Smart team turns those ugly weeds into a tranquil meditation garden in just two days. A circular firepit with blue Indonesian stones creates a cozy hangout. The old wood fence is covered with bamboo matting. Under the staircase, a redwood meditation platform hides the ugly concrete base and becomes the perfect place to view the new garden.
