Blanche has decided to replant each bed in the yard in its own unique style--all of which will create an overall Japanese theme. Before she begins this process, she pares down the yard by removing many of the plants and re-staining the large trellis facing the street. In the central planting bed/island, Blanche creates the look of a dry creek bed with a mix of large stones and river rocks. She espaliers a persimmon tree to the trellis. To deal with the foundation bed's contrast of shade and sunny areas, she plants white shade-loving flowers on one end and a colorful explosion of flowers at the sunny side. A dwarf maple and Japanese lantern become the focal points to the home's Central bed.

Blanche continues her transformation of the Boris' garden by turning the corner planting area into a shade, moss and meditation garden, complete with chamomile for fragrance. As a final touch to the yard, she rakes the gravel in patterns, giving it a more formal look. Blanche's attention then moves to the front entry where she sparingly plants bonsai evergreens in the walkway path. A bonsai ginkgo, bamboo, bench and temple dogs are all used to dress the front porch, finalizing the Japanese look of the front yard.
