Broken Pots

Gardening by the Yard : Episode GBY-512 -- More Projects »
In the past, James either threw away broken planting pots or used the shards in the bottom of other pots to prevent soil from washing out the drain hole. Since then, however, he has discovered better uses for broken pots:
  • Create a special look in flower beds. Just take a broken pot and stick it in the ground so that it looks as if the whole pot is buried; stuff it with soil and put a small plant back in it. In no time, you'll have an interesting feature that will draw more attention than any container-grown plant could.
  • Create a mini-sanctuary for wildlife, especially slug-eating frogs and toads, which love the cool, shady cover the pot provides. Just put the pot in the ground and stick a few plants in the foreground for cover.
