Window boxes are a beautiful addition to any home, but make sure you have the time to take care of them.
Window boxes full of blooms are a beautiful way to enhance the look of any structure. However, they can be considered high maintenance. Here are some tips to help keep your window boxes thriving.

Window boxes dry out quickly. Use peat moss instead of potting soil to help retain moisture and keep the plants cool.

Check the window box every day to see if it needs water. If you're going on vacation, ask a neighbor to take care of your window box while you're gone. Watering the window box often will leach out a lot of the nutrients from the soil or peat moss. To compensate for this loss of nutrients, use a 10-10-10 fertilizer once a week to keep the plants blooming.

Deadhead (cut off the blooms) once they start dying. This will encourage more blooms throughout the season.
