Insider's Garden : Episode TIG-207 -- More Projects »

When placing plants on the floor of the powder room, use large plants with a presence, like this Chinese evergreen (Aglaonema) or a palm.
  • A wall grid borrowed from the kitchen provides an unusual and efficient way to display plants. Pots can be suspended from S-hooks attached to the grid, or in sconces. (Note: Never place plants in a sconce connected to electricity.)
  • A window box, at home indoors or out, is a terrific way to group plants for display that gets them up off the floor. Leave plants in their pots so they can be carried easily to the sink for watering or for changing out as foliage and blooms fade. Cover pots with Spanish moss to give a finished, unified look.
  • Decorative shallow trays can hold a grouping of plants and look especially nice featured on glass shelves so often found in powder rooms.
  • Choose large distinctive plants if they are to be left on the floor in decorative containers.
  • Some plants to consider for powder room displays include ferns, flowering cyclamen, rabbit foot fern (Davallia), palms, Chinese evergreen (Aglaonema), polka dot plants (Hypoestes) and jasmine flowering vines.
