Gardening expert Marianne Binetti points out the best plants to have around to clean the air and add humidity to any room. She also shares a smart care tip and arranging idea for each plant.
* Note: The National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) conducted tests that found the following plants absorb the most pollutants and most effectively clean the air. The plants actually convert the pollutants to food.
English Ivy: It is nice in a country setting. Place in a basket on a mantel or as a centerpiece.
Gerbera Daisies: Plant in a contemporary pot (silver or chrome) for a clean look.
Devil's Ivy: This is nice to drape and hang from a ceiling or banister. Many new hangers come with a built-in tray to catch water.
Florist's Mums: These make a perfect gift for someone who is feeling under the weather. Simply place in a gift bag with a saucer underneath.
Peace Lily, Spider Plant, Corn Plant: A quick care tip is to trim any brown tips with scissors and flush the plant with running water over a sink, basin or tub to remove excess salts. Arrange all in a large basket to grow and reap benefits from one another.
Bamboo Palm: This type of plant makes a great, natural living-room divider. If it's not tall enough to block the view, prop it up and elevate it onto an overturned pot.
