Q&A: Storing Bulbs

Grow It! : Episode GRW-203 -- More Projects »
What's a good way to store tubers and bulbs in winter?
  • Dig bulbs from the soil.
  • Examine the bulbs, removing dead and broken parts and all remaining soil.
  • Break apart large roots.
  • Store the bulbs in vermiculite, perlite or peat moss, making sure to cover each bulb with the material. The container in which you store the bulbs should be breathable--a biodegradable pot, for example, or a bushel basket. Do not store your bulbs in plastic bags or pots.
  • Place the container in a cool and relatively dry area.
