The obvious pun is simply unavoidable: This robust guide to ground covers certainly covers a lot of ground. The encyclopedia of plants includes more than 400 varieties of flowering and foliage ground covers. The nine contributing photographers captured a healthy majority of the listed plants in an inspirational gallery.

The brief introduction offers some good points and a few tips for considering and choosing plants. There is a mention of the problems with invasive species that have been introduced to some zones, but the authors do not warn against their continued use.

The guide would also be more useful with some cross-indexing or tables that would tell the reader which species are suitable for certain applications by their characteristics.
