Clothes Dryer Vents

Gardening by the Yard : Episode GBY-520 -- More Projects »
Outdoor vents for clothes dryers can actually be bad for plants because they drastically change the air temperature nearby. This is especially bad in the winter. Warm air from the vent may induce sap flow and growth at a time when growth needs to be at or near a standstill. Vented air can also dry out plants too quickly in warm weather, ultimately killing them.

The solution? Try not to place landscape plants within about two or three feet of a dryer vent. You can also place an object such as yard art near the vent, being careful not to block it, but positioning the object so that the air flow is dispersed or redirected.
