Saving Unused Seed

Winter Gardener : Episode TWG-111 -- More Projects »
Don't throw away leftover seeds, says host John Cretti; instead, store them using powdered milk as a desiccant to keep the seeds dry and fresh. Here's how:

Materials:

seeds
nonfat milk / powdered milk
tissue
rubber band
Mason jar or storage jar

Steps:

  1. Take two facial tissues and lay them out flat.
  2. Place two tablespoons of nonfat milk on the tissues and fold them into a little pouch. Secure the pouch with a rubber band or twist tie.
  3. Drop the pouch in the bottom of a storage jar with an airtight seal.
  4. Put the seed packets in the jar with the pouch and snap the lid in place.
  5. Store the seeds in a cool dry place.
