Mini-Mattock

Winter Gardener : Episode TWG-102 -- More Projects »
This tool is ideal for times when planting scores of bulbs has resulted in tired hands and a sore back. A handy multi-purpose instrument, it can be swung like a hammer to make a hole large enough for a bulb, and can also be used to dig weeds and mix soil.

Tips:

  • A mini-mattock has a flat end and a pointed end; dig weeds using the pointed end.
  • For planting, use the flat end to plant bulbs or winter plants and then to pat the soil back down.
  • When dislodging flagstones, use a mini-mattock to dig up compacted soil.
