Q&A: Easy Care Iris

Grow It! : Episode GRW-501 -- More Projects »
Q: What is a good iris for easy-care blooms?

A: There are many species of iris, and the Siberian iris (Iris siberica ), Zones 4-9, is one of the easiest to care for. This iris blooms early in the season and is available in a variety of colors such as white, blue, lavender and almost red. Following three to four years of growth, the plant base will be about the size of a dinner plate. At that time, divide the clump into four sections with a shovel and replant the clumps in the fall. By the next spring, there will be four more new clumps of beautiful iris.
