Above the summer kitchen, separate from the house, is the upstairs office. Strongly apportioned with edgy, masculine furnishings, the office is a getaway within a getaway, allowing you to meditate, study or revel in the best-kept secret of the Dream Home: the view.

With windows on three sides and double doors that can be thrown open to the breeze, the office offers the most spectacular view of the bay and a deck from which to enjoy it. Inside, in a twist, a long dining table serves as a work surface, with modern bookcases and a large leather chair enhancing the razor-sharp modern decor.

"The idea is to expand the house into the landscape," architect Randy Johnson notes. "By pushing the summer kitchen and office away from the house, it gives you the vantage point of being able to see the house and still see the bay. Because Florida is so level, with a little elevation you can see forever, so the view from the office is phenomenal."

The office can also serve as a spare bedroom with its own toilet and sink. Even more, it serves as a mini-retreat in much the same way as the kid's bunk room.

"The house is wonderful in the way it functions," says Johnson. "The kids have their own space--which is separate from the house, above the garage. The office serves as a getaway, as well. And if you have a few people over for the weekend, if they stay up here, the setting will absolutely blow them away."
