The Dream Home prize package simply offers more at every turn, and the mudroom is no exception. A growing trend in homebuilding in all parts of the country is the addition of a mudroom, which can be much more than a place to kick off dirty boots.

Architect Randy Johnson decided on a greenhouse during the initial stage of development, and the mudroom was a natural extension of that. "The mudroom was meant to end the (horizontal) axis," Johnson says. "You have a garden prep room - which is a mudroom - but you have a functioning reason to have this room. It's more than a mud room. It's a prep area. Then you have the greenhouse."

The room features a laundry area with plenty of cabinet space, as well as tons of shelf space under the sink. With a restaurant-style sprayer, the deep-welled sink is perfect for gardening and landscaping duty. Even the view from the sink as you work is as breathtaking as many others from the house.

With the doggie Dream Home just outside the door to the mudroom, the family pooch has a place to come and have muddy paws cleaned before entering the house. The greenhouse is only a few feet away, which is perfect when making trips to and from the house with the gorgeous orchids you'll grow.
