Spanish-Style Bungalow Transformed Into Designer's Dream
Kitty Bartholomew: You're Home : Episode KIT-1309 -- More Projects »
The 1925 Spanish bungalow that designer Joel Samuels purchased was a total mess before he remodeled it and made it livable. With a little TLC, he was able to turn it into a comfortable, inviting space. He essentially kept the structure intact, only adding a master bedroom to the back. The color palette throughout is neutral, creating a cohesive look from room to room. The clean lines in the living room set the tone for the rest of the home. The only adjustments he made were to remove the carpet and refinish the floors and frame the fireplace with a faux stone surround.
Muted green walls bring color into the dining room. Raw silk fabric on the chairs lends a simple, natural touch to the space. French doors purchased from a home-improvement store open up the space to the garden outside.
The kitchen was overhauled with new tile countertops and cabinets. The tile lends itself to the Spanish style and was a cost-effective alternative to granite. The cabinets were purchased from a home-improvement store but have a custom look because they go all the way up to the ceiling.
