A passion for things time-worn and well-loved helped turn Julie Switzer and Tim McGlynn's vision for a peasant country kitchen into a dream come true, with the help of designer Bruce Kading. A rustic European style dominates the room, with thick ocher-colored plaster walls, recycled oak floors and worn pine cabinets. The countertops are acid-etched concrete. The butcher block island was found in the basement of an antique store and the farmhouse sink was discovered at a used plumbing supply store. Clerestory windows allow natural light to filter in; a trellis provides the perfect spot for drying herbs.
