Host Joan Kohn visits a master suite designed by architect Jan Gleysteen, who designed a Greek revival home with revival details used throughout the suite. The geometric themes and ornate wood moldings create a classic look that plays with light and shadows.
- The large master suite includes a spacious bedroom, walk-in closet and bathroom.
- The master dressing room is spacious, well-lit and has special custom features, like a pull-out ironing board.
- Strong colors and patterns in the master bedroom were inspired by the brilliant colors in the painting over the bed. Red and white toile on the bed is echoed in a chair and complemented by another chair of bright red. Soft ivory walls and carpeting provide the soothing counterpoint. French country cherry wood furniture add a warm, inviting look to the room.
- An intricate X pattern on the deck railing outside the patio doors repeats the Greek revival theme, as do the wide moldings wood trim and wainscoting.
- A tray ceiling with cove lighting adds drama and atmosphere.
- The bathroom uses white tiles on vertical surfaces, which are anchored by deep gray limestone tiles on the floor in the room and in the shower. Countertops are white marble with a gray vein running through it.
- Polished nickel fixtures were chosen for their soft, aged patina.
- The woodwork for the bathroom cabinetry was kept pure and simple, characteristic of the Greek revival look.
