Using Color in Country Design

Country Style : Episode COS-407 -- More Projects »
Marylou Krajci, senior editor of Country Living magazine says to take a look at your collections and what you already own and choose a color that stands out. Before painting the entire room, try it out on a board or just a few strips on the wall to observe how the light affects the hue.

Larry Bilotti, executive editor of Country Living magazine says to also examine your surroundings and even look in your closet to see what color family your most drawn to. Also, look through magazines to get an idea of what room scenes and styles you're drawn to. If going from white walls to color try to live with it awhile if at first the hue seems garish and shocking. Give yourself time to get used to the new surroundings.

Interior Designer Joan Osburn says to be aware of how texture and pattern can affect your color choice. Be sure to mix matte, shiny, metallic and opalescent finishes in order to achieve a look pleasing to the eye.
