Set designer Darren Ransdell is a fearless decorator with a home full of vignettes and creative uses for color and accents. Here's how he's showcased his daring and wild sense of style in every room of the house.

The living room is used primarily for entertaining and is arranged so that guests can stand around and mingle. The two seating areas are tied together with a wood "rug" comprised of wood panels simply placed over the existing wood floor.

A strong statement of color is found in the large-scale artwork on the back wall. He made the piece for a set but brought it home to add drama to his elegant living space. It's simple to make--just attach textured wallpaper to a large piece of wood, finsh the edges with trim and paint! The wedding-cake molding above the piece is brought to life with purple/gray pearlized paint.

The dining room has an urban feel with eggplant-colored walls and pops of orange and red in the art and accessories. Another set piece is the huge clock face on the back wall. An adjacent wall holds a canvas painted sherbert orange. A patch of potted grass underneath the canvas adds texture.

A graceful sheer canopy in the breakfast room softens the ceiling and evokes a fantastical charm. The panels are secured to an old wreath frame in the center of the ceiling and held in the corners with rings and cup hooks. The table is definitely a set designer's creation with coffee cups elevated on upside-down wine glasses, rose petals sprinkled around the dinnerware and napkins held in place with river rocks. Underfoot is a two-tone rug made of cut carpet pieces layered on top of each other.

The old linoleum on the kitchen floor was cracked, so instead of replacing it he removed it completely and refurbished the subfloor with a painted square design.
