Sage stenciled walls and a functional furniture arrangement allow this one room to serve for dining, an entryway and a small home office.
Soft colors, family heirlooms, treasured art and accessories are the makings for this fabulous dining room that also serves as an entry, music room and home office. Hosts Matt Fox and Shari Hiller add moldings, custom stenciling and make a great storage bench for extra shoes and umbrellas. The ceiling is too uneven for crown molding so it's painted white, along with about two inches of the top of the walls. Chair rail molding is then installed lower to create the impression that the molding continues to the ceiling. Smaller molding is also installed about 30 inches down from the ceiling with an elaborate stencil design painted above for visual interest to balance the furnishings at eye level. Finally, Fox and Hiller combine various family heirlooms--from furniture to china--to create a cohesive and interesting multifunctional space.
